King's College London
King’s College London is the fourth oldest university in England and has played a major role in many of the advances that have shaped modern life, such as the discovery of the structure of DNA. It is the largest centre for the education of healthcare professionals in Europe and is home to six Medical Research Council Centres - more than any other university.
Five of the nine Schools of the College cover health subjects; Medicine, Biomedical & Health Sciences, the Dental Institute, the Florence Nightingale School of Nursing & Midwifery (King’s is the only Russell Group university in London with a school of Nursing and Midwifery) and the renowned Institute of Psychiatry.
King’s also has a distinguished reputation as a provider of professional training and research in Pharmacy, Dietetics and Physiotherapy.
King’s has reformed health related post graduate teaching and research into disease-focused divisions such as cardiovascular, cancer and asthma. Each of these contains basic scientists including, for example, geneticists, pharmacologists, biochemists and biophysicists working together alongside clinical researchers to tackle problems related to their areas.
King’s also brings to the partnership unique strengths and interests in health matters through its School of Social Sciences & Public Policy, with internationally-recognised expertise in health policy and military health.
Physical Sciences at King’s includes groups that focus on biomedical problems and growth is targeted in areas such as bioinformatics, biomedical engineering and biomodelling research. The Schools of Law and Arts & Humanities are outstanding in the areas of medical ethics, the philosophy of medicine and medicine and the arts.
