Inspiring our future workforce
Last month, Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust offered a one week insight for candidates interested in taking up a career in nursing.
It is widely recognised that although young people are our future workforce, they often have limited opportunity to see the world of work before they leave education at 18 years of age.
Throughout the nursing insight week, candidates were able to shadow nursing professionals in cardiac, dermatology, dental, surgical admissions, interventional radiology, older person’s units and paediatrics at Evelina London Children’s Hospital.

Mags Jubb, Education Training and Development Manager for Clinical Education at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, said:
It is very difficult for many school leavers to know what it is they want to do for their career. This opportunity allows them to have a taster of what it’s like to work in healthcare before they commit to the financial implications of a university place. It is fantastic to be able to offer this experience to young people from Lambeth and Southwark and give them insight into a career in nursing.
The recent work experience students were really enthusiastic about the procedures they witnessed and the dedication, team work and compassion that the nursing teams demonstrated.
