Immune Effector Cell TherapyIEC therapy

Immune Effector Cell Therapy (IEC) therapy uses the patient’s own or donor T-lymphocytes to enhance anti-tumour activity which are then re-infused back into the patient. The ultimate objective of the process is the stimulation and expansion of potent and antigen-specific T-cell immunity.

The administration of IEC products may include significant risk of toxicity with cytokine release syndrome (CRS) and neurotoxicity being the most frequently seen side effects. Evidence shows these side effects occur in up to 80% of patients and require efficient identification and urgent treatment.

This course is designed for nurses looking after IEC therapy patients on the wards. It provides an overview of everything you need to know to safely care for patients. By the end of this module you will be able to:

  1. Outline the different ICE therapy treatments available;
  2. Describe how IEC therapy treatments are made;
  3. Explain how IEC therapy works;
  4. Describe the typical patient pathway for IEC therapy;
  5. List the main side effects of IEC therapy;
  6. Effectively manage the side effects of IEC therapy;
  7. Discuss challenges associated with delivering IEC therapy.
