Deputy Vice Principal for Health Sciences appointed at the College

Professor Shitij KapurProfessor Shitij Kapur has been appointed as Deputy Vice Principal for Health Sciences (DVP Health Schools) at King’s College London. He will combine his new duties with his existing role as Dean of the Institute of Psychiatry.

Reporting to Professor Robert Lechler, Executive Director of King’s Health Partners and Vice Principal (Health) of the College, Professor Kapur will be responsible for assisting in leading and managing the academic strategy and performance of the College’s Health Schools. As a member of the Principal’s Central Team, Professor Kapur will also have a reporting relationship with the Principal Professor Rick Trainor.

Professor Kapur will support Professor Lechler in his capacity as Executive Director of King’s Health Partners to ensure that College-led education and research initiatives receive full support within the strategic performance measures of the partnership. As King’s Health Partners commits itself to deepening integration across the partners and imbuing a greater academic ethos, Professor Kapur will assist Professor Lechler in ensuring that the Trusts and the College contribute to the aspiration of the organisation to become Europe’s leading Academic Health Sciences Centre.

Professor Kapur’s key responsibilities in the College will include assisting Professor Lechler in developing and delivering a set of strategic priorities, which further improve the Health Schools’ research and educational performance and optimise cross-School initiatives, such as academic workforce development and student care.

He will also work with Professor Eeva Leinonen, Vice Principal (Education), to ensure that systems and processes are implemented effectively to improve further the quality of students’ educational experience within both academic and clinical settings.
