New Year Honours
Staff and alumni from King’s Health Partners have been recognised in the 2018 New Year Honours list.
Professor Elizabeth Kuipers has been awarded an OBE (Officer of the Order of the British Empire) for services to Clinical Research, Treatment, and Support for People with Psychosis.
Professor Kuipers is a Professor Emerita of Clinical Psychology at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience (IoPPN) at King’s College London, and honorary Consultant Clinical Psychologist at South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust. She is world renowned for her research and clinical work focusing on developing, evaluating and improving psychological interventions for people with psychosis and their caregivers. The interventions include family intervention for psychosis and cognitive behavioural therapy for psychosis. Both are National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) recommended treatments in the NHS.
Professor Andrew Shennan was awarded an OBE for services to Maternity Care. Professor Shennan is Professor of Obstetrics at King’s College London and a Consultant Obstetrician at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust. He is recognised for his award-winning preterm surveillance clinic at St Thomas’ Hospital, which has been emulated around the country.
The clinic focuses on screening for, treating, and preventing premature birth. As a result of this novel approach, 90% of high-risk women seen at the clinic have had a healthy baby at full-term, compared with a national average of 50-70% of women.
The following King's College London alumni were also featured in this year's New Year Honours:
