Patient Safety Awards shortlist
Four teams across our partnership have been shortlisted for the 2018 Patient Safety Awards. Now in its tenth year, the Patient Safety Awards continue to recognise and reward outstanding practice within the NHS and independent healthcare organisations.
Maudsley Simulation have been shortlisted in the Education and Training category for delivering safer care through innovative mental health simulation training. Maudsley Simulation was shortlisted for its multi-disciplinary, cross-organisational approach to providing joined up mental and physical healthcare. It is the UK’s first simulation training centre focusing on mental health with the aim of improving services for all who are affected by mental health issues.
The Lane Fox REMEO Respiratory Centre at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust was shortlisted in the Clinical Governance & Risk Management category, for improving patient safety when using tracheostomy speaking valves. The Lane Fox Respiratory Service is a specialist commissioned respiratory service to support both the acute and long-term management of patients with sleep disordered breathing, chronic respiratory failure and pulmonary hypertension. The Unit has joined with REMEO Ltd, to develop a 20-bed weaning unit that opened on the East Surrey Hospital site in 2014. This novel public-private partnership will allow clinical care to be delivered to more patients with chronic respiratory failure under the care of a consultant team.
The Health Innovation Network was shortlisted in the Product or Innovation category for Spotting Signs of Sepsis, an awareness film about paediatric sepsis. The aim of the film is to standardise safety-netting practice across primary care and emergency departments within the UK, increase the awareness of parents and clinicians regarding the symptoms of sepsis, and empower parents with the knowledge of how to care for their children with fever or infection. The Rapid Access Diagnostic Clinic at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust has been shortlisted in the Product or Innovation category. The innovative clinic provides quick access to a range of tests for patients aged 40 and over, whose symptoms are non-specific but concerning. Read more about the Rapid Access Diagnostic Clinic.
The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony in Manchester, on 9 July.
