Online Mind & Body course returns
The 'Integrating Care: Depression, Anxiety and Physical Illness' Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) is returning on Monday 14 January 2019.
This free three-week course is available to staff at all levels and explores the connection between mental and physical health, and approaches to integrating care.
The course has been designed for both clinical and non-clinical professionals, as well as carers and patients, and more than 5,300 people took part in the first version earlier this year.
Around one in three people have a long-term physical illness, and of these nearly a third also struggle with mental health problems like depression and anxiety. Symptoms like pain, fatigue, disability, and uncertainty around treatment can all contribute to depression and anxiety, which in turn can worsen physical symptoms.
The course covers a broad range of topics from understanding the mind and body link, recognising symptoms of and understanding the impact of depression and anxiety on health and quality of life, to communication skills to overcome barriers to talking about distress in physical illness, and treatment options and management techniques.
This course has been accredited by the Continuous Professional Development (CPD) Certification Service, which means it can be used to provide evidence of your continuing development.
Thank you to all involved with this course. I have thoroughly enjoyed studying and have found it to be insightful and thought provoking. Well designed, and really well structured so the learning is modulated and the concepts are grasped before the next topic is introduced. Highly recommended. Thank you all again. Looking forward to taking my education further.
