Our programme

A Value Based Healthcare approach aims to deliver excellent and consistent health outcomes that matter to patients and their families and make best use of available resources.

To deliver transformational health improvements that are patient-centred, population-based and sustainable we believe we must make the best use of all resources available by continually focusing on value across the full cycle of care. We have adopted the following:

Value-based healthcare is the equitable, sustainable and transparent use of the available resources to achieve better outcomes and experiences for every person.

Value Based Healthcare at King’s Health Partners

At King's Health Partners, our goal is to:

  • develop meaningful and consistent patient-centred outcomes, defined by patients, service users and carers
  • quantify the potential impact that investment decisions have on our patients, carers, the local health economy and wider society
  • ensure that the mental, physical and psychosocial needs of people are treated as one
  • evaluate and learn from the outcomes that we achieve through research and transparent use of data to reduce variation.

We are working with clinical teams across our partnership to redesign pathways of care based on the above principles – and we share what we learn with organisations locally and globally.

The Vital 5

We believe measuring, recording and controlling five key measures at an individual and population level – the Vital 5 – would help improve outcomes and reduce health inequalities.

Find out more about why we’re focusing on these measures and how we’re promoting the Vital 5.

Sharing outcomes

Recording and analysing accurate information is essential to showcasing the benefits of a value based approach.

Our Clinical Academic Groups (CAGs) and institutes are developing measures to understand value and see where there are variations in the quality of care. We are publishing Outcomes Books for each CAG, so that people in our partnership and beyond can see the value of what we do and our progress in patient care, research and education.

We are leading the way nationally in this routine collation and publishing of outcomes.

Our impact

King's Health Partners is cited as a case study in The UK: Value-based strategy in a changing NHS, as an example of innovation in value through the publication of Outcomes Books.
