KHP Rare Disease Grand Round:  Rare craniofacial conditions

Topics and speakers:

Teeth and Bones - managing the dental features of cleidocranial dysplasia

Dr Mike Harrison, Consultant in Paediatric Dentistry, Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust

Mike graduated from Cardiff Dental School and completed specialist training in paediatric dentistry at Guy’s Dental Institute in 1996. He pursued molecular genetic studies of dental anomalies at the Institute of Child Health, subsequently developing a referral network from regional clinical genetics services. He specialises in treatment for dental aspects of rare genetic disorders and interfaces with a number of highly-specialised MDT services, including the nucleotide excision repair disorders service at the Rare Diseases Centre, and the ECLH skeletal dysplasia service.  He is a member of the paediatric cleidocranial dysplasia MDT, providing clinical and surgical dental care through to transition.

Failed resorption, failed eruption and uncontrolled tooth number in cleidocranial dysplasia – do we know why?

Prof Martyn Cobourne, Professor of Orthodontics, King’s College London and Hon Consultant in Orthodontics, Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust

Martyn Cobourne is Professor of Orthodontics at King’s College London and Hon Consultant in Orthodontics at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust. His research group is based in the Centre for Craniofacial & Regenerative Biology within the Faculty of Dentistry, Oral & Craniofacial Sciences at King’s. He has a long-standing interest in the biology of craniofacial development with a particular focus on the hedgehog signalling pathway, and its role during development of the dentition and secondary palate using the mouse as a developmental model.

The grand round will be chaired by Professor Karen Liu, Professor of Genetics and Development, Centre for Craniofacial & Regenerative Biology, King’s College London.

The grand round will be recorded and will be available to view later on the KHP Learning Hub.
