King's Health Partners (KHP) is proud to announce the launch of the Armed Forces Community Clinical Academic Group (CAG), a bold new initiative dedicated to improving health outcomes for the Armed Forces Community (serving personnel (regular and reservist), veterans, families and Cadet Force Adult Volunteers).

This pioneering CAG brings together the collective strengths of KHP’s four partners, Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust, and King’s College London, with military, academic, and third-sector collaborators. It aims to address the unique health, social, and occupational challenges faced by the Armed Forces Community through research, education, and integrated care.

Grounded in the moral imperative to support those who have served, the CAG builds on longstanding collaboration and aligns with the Armed Forces Covenant and key national priorities, improving mental health, reducing health inequalities, and driving innovation in military healthcare.

Key priorities for the Armed Forces Community CAG:

  • Improving personalised care and access to services
  • Advancing research into Armed Forces community health and wellbeing
  • Supporting Armed Forces-aware education and training
  • Shaping policy through evidence and advocacy
  • Harnessing digital tools to better understand and serve the community

Professor NT Fear CBE, Professor of Epidemiology, Academic Department of Military Mental Health, Co-Director, King's Centre for Military Health Research, King's College London, said

I am delighted that King’s Health Partners has established the Armed Forces Community Clinical Academic Group (CAG). There is already much work going on across King’s and our partners to support the sector, the CAG will ensure we build on these strong foundations, working together for the benefit of the whole Armed Forces Community. I am really looking forward to being part of this new and exciting initiative.

Professor Graham Lord, Executive Director, King’s Health Partners, said

I’m delighted that King’s Health Partners can help provide a platform for colleagues and collaborators to take this important work forward. The Armed Forces Community CAG will play a key role in shaping our shared learning and approach to improving health and wellbeing for the Armed Forces community.

By formalising existing partnerships and fostering new ones, the Armed Forces Community CAG will serve as a catalyst for lasting change, creating better and fairer health systems for those who serve and have served.

The CAG proposals have been developed by people from across the partners. As we continue to develop the CAG, we are inviting anyone interested within or beyond King’s Health Partners to join.
